About Dr. Esther Son

Assistant Professor

Dr. Esther Son came to the College of Staten Island, City University of New York (CSI, CUNY) in 2014 after serving as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Senior Research Associate at the Lurie Institute for Disability Policy, The Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University. Her primary research interest is the enhancement of the health and well-being of children and adults with disabilities and their families. In particular, she is interested in the school adjustment and social inclusion of children with developmental disabilities, including autism, and their health and mental health status and health disparities. In addition, she is interested in children’s, families’, and teachers’ attitudes toward children with disabilities and their caregiving families. Dr. Son has been a researcher at Institute for Families, School of Social Work, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and a social worker at Seoul Community Rehabilitation Center and Siloam Center for the Visually Handicapped in South Korea.
